I built my career backward from the life I wanted.
Ten years ago I was managing a Walgreens store. I was working hard, doing everything right, and going nowhere I actually wanted to go. The promotion I was chasing got cut. That was the day I stopped looking for the next job and started asking a different question — not "what job pays more," but "what life do I actually want, and what career could fund it?"
I found people already living the life I wanted, and I followed their path. I studied how they got there, reverse-engineered their steps, and built a plan to qualify for the same entry point. Within three years of focused work, I was living that same life through that career.
But none of it moved until I did the hardest thing: I put skin in the game. I walked away from Walgreens with no income and a few months of savings. I sold my car. I sold my house. I moved into a room. I said, "I'm going all in." The first months were brutal — and they were the only reason it worked. Comfort would have kept me exactly where I was.
